Outdoor Tiles

Sydney outdoor areas get full sun, summer storms and salt air, often all in one week. Outdoor tiles need to hold colour, resist frost and staining, and stay grippy when wet.

This collection covers textured porcelain and natural stone rated for external floors, pool surrounds and alfresco areas, with slip ratings listed on every product.

Slip ratings for outdoor areas

External paving around Sydney homes generally calls for P4. Pool surrounds, ramps and steps that are wet most of the summer are better in P5. Both ratings are listed on our product pages so you can filter before you fall for a colour.

Tiles or pavers

Standard 8–10mm outdoor tiles are bonded to a prepared slab. 20mm porcelain pavers can also be laid dry on pedestals, sand or gravel, which suits balconies, rooftop terraces and garden paths.

Coastal and pool conditions

Porcelain does not absorb salt water or pool chemicals the way porous stone can, which is why it dominates pool surrounds. If you prefer stone, plan on sealing and periodic maintenance.

Common questions

What slip rating do I need around a pool?
P5 is the safest choice for pool surrounds and wet steps. P4 is generally acceptable for covered alfresco areas and patios that dry quickly.
Will outdoor tiles fade in the Australian sun?
Quality porcelain is colour-stable in UV and will not fade. Some natural stones lighten over time, which many owners consider part of the material's character.
